After attending a charity event last month, our director and his wife were touched by the heart breaking story of Mrs. Rhian Mannings and how she has turned a devastating circumstance into one of such strength and support for others.

On the 22 February 2012 Rhian tragically lost her baby son, George. He was only 1 year, 1 week and 1 day old. He died after suffering a seizure at home. It was discovered later that George was suffering from Bronchial Pneumonia and Type A Influenza. Then a double tragedy struck Rhian, as her husband Paul tragically died 5 days later, he was 33 years old. Paul took his own life as he simply could not cope with the loss of their baby son.

2 Wish Upon A Star was created in their memory and to support other parents who have suddenly suffered bereavement.

Rhian’s charity aims to ensure that every Emergency Department in Wales has a suitable bereavement suite for bereaved families. They also ensure that bereavement boxes are available for families at each of these hospital and that immediate support is available for suddenly bereaved families.

This critically important service also provides a professional counselling service for suddenly bereaved families along with support to individuals who witness the sudden and traumatic death of a child or young adult.

After hearing what Rhian has been through and how she is making it her aim to help support others in this unimaginable situation, we felt that we simply had to do something.

Here at Prichard’s we specialise in transport, plant hire, demolition, civil engineering and recycling. We own 4 recycling centres across South Wales and therefore, it has been agreed that Prichard’s and Project Red Recycling Ltd. will become official sponsors of 2 Wish Upon A Star and we will donate £1 per tonne of dried mixed recycling to the charity.

We hope that this donation, each month, will help to ensure that no family, experiencing such loss will have to face it alone.

“We cannot thank Tom, Pippa and everyone at Prichard’s for this incredible gesture. Sadly, our charity is helping so many families and to continue to make a difference we need to work with others to raise money and awareness. 2 Wish Upon A star was established due to personal reasons and despite now being an all Wales charity it remains home grown with strong beliefs and values. We are extremely proud to be working with a local company who have similar beliefs to us and we are so excited about working with Prichard’s in the future. The impact of communities coming together is often underestimated – 2 Wish can help so many because of it. Together we can make a difference. Thank you everyone. Rhian xx”

We will be holding an open morning at Project Red Recycling Ltd. in the New Year where Mrs. Rhian Mannings and Mrs. Prichard will be available to meet with staff and members of the public to discuss the charity and how our donations are helping.

If you are able to donate any amount of money, no matter how big or small, please do so via this link

We commend Rhian and for the strength she has shown and the support she has provided to so many families whilst dealing with such horrific grief herself.
